What We Do
Positioning our Member Nations for wealth generation opportunities associated with clean/renewable energy developments in New Brunswick.
How Do We Do This?
- By identifying investment opportunities in new energy generation, energy storage, and energy transportation.
- Through our NSMTC Economic Development Strategy.
- By participating in joint ventures.
- By helping our Member Nations access funding opportunities.
Engaging the current and future Indigenous labour force to build employment capacity within the clean/renewable energy sector.
How Do We Do This?
- By sourcing opportunities for capacity-building initiatives and projects associated with clean/renewable energy.
- By developing and launching STEM and Energy programs to engage Indigenous Youth.
- By hosting Indigenous labour force development workshops via our annual symposium.
Networking with energy development partners to support the growth of the Indigenous supply chain.
How Do We Do This?
- By supporting Small Modular Reactor development and deployment in New Brunswick.
- By connecting with major players in clean/renewable energy development via groups such as the Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Indigenous Business Development Network and the NRCan Enabling SMR Program.
- By hosting Indigenous supplier development workshops via our annual symposium.
One of our key projects in this area is the SMR Indigenous Supply Chain Overview and Gap Analysis:
Exploring pathways to a net-zero carbon economy for our Member Nations and sustainability for future generations.
How Do We Do This?
- By supporting the development of community energy plans and net-zero strategies.
- By coordinating community net-zero energy projects such as solar farm installations.
- Through the NB Power First Nations Energy Efficiency Program.
By participating in the New Brunswick Energy Transition Working Group.
Symposium
The NSMTC’s Atlantic Indigenous-Led Energy Symposium is an annual event that brings together leaders from First Nation communities, utilities, government, and industry, for conversation and collaboration focused on the Energy Sector. This event explores current energy initiatives and upcoming opportunities, and creates an environment for two-way dialogue on the unique opportunities for Indigenous involvement. Together, we are on a journey to a net-zero carbon economy in 2050 and a more sustainable outlook for future generations.
