New Videos Spotlight the Work of Mi’kmaq Water & Wastewater Operators
The North Shore Mi’kmaq Tribal Council (NSMTC) has released two new videos honouring the work of community water and wastewater operators across its seven Member Nations.
The operators ensure that our communities have safe, clean drinking water. They manage local water systems, perform routine maintenance, and respond quickly when issues arise. Their work is vital, often demanding long hours and technical skill.
The videos were developed by NSMTC’s Technical Services department, which supports operators with training, emergency response, and infrastructure planning. This work aligns with the goals of the Weso’tmk Samqwan Indigenous Water Services Framework, which helps strengthen Indigenous control over water and wastewater systems.
“Being an operator means being an integral part of the community,” said Darcy Wood, wastewater operator for Natoaganeg First Nation.
That message is at the heart of both videos, honouring the people who do this work, and the communities they serve every day.
