Ugpi’ganjig First Nation is located on the north shore of the province, situated at the mouth of the Eel River along the beautiful Bay of Chaleur. The Ugpi’ganjig First Nation reserve was established in 1807, although the lush lands of the Benjamin River area had long-served as a summer settlement for Mi’kmaq families.
Ugpi’ganjig is a proud Mi'kmaq community of approximately 733 members, 350 of which live in the community. The Mi'kmaq People of Ugpi’ganjig make a living from traditional resourced-based jobs such as fishing and forestry, and non-traditional employment within the sectors of First Nation local government, housing construction, trades, small business and band-based business operations.
The community takes immense pride in its people and culture, placing value in community events, family, tradition, and the resilience and adaptability of its members.
