KWE – The Gathering is different.

Prepare for something new. KWE – The Gathering offers a refresh and a reset in how we work together, aligning newcomers to these lands – who bring technology and development – with those who have always been here, stewarding resources with intention and generosity. Grounded in Mi’kmaq values of connection, respect, and collaboration, KWE is a transformational, relationship-based experience designed to shift conversations, strengthen understanding, build lasting commitments, and lay the foundation for leading together.

A play on the word Kwe’, which in Mi’kmaq is a greeting akin to “hello”, expressing openness, welcome, and mutual acknowledgement.

Indigenous-Led

The event itself, and the proposed approach to new nuclear development, put Indigenous rights-holders in a leadership position from the earliest concept stage, improving alignment.

Relationship-First

The first order of business is connecting with the other leaders in the room. A generous portion of the program is focused on close one-on-one and small group conversations.

Action-Oriented

Following naturally from time spent deepening connections with your fellow leaders, the focus will shift to the work ahead, how it will get done, and what each participant will contribute.

Traditional Teachings

In brief teaching moments from the stage, Indigenous Elders, youth, and leadership will share what it means from their perspective to work together “in a good way.”

KWE – The Gathering is designed for important conversations to happen in a good way, for building trust and legacy.

The Gathering brings together senior leaders of Indigenous organizations, government, industry, funds, utilities, and the nuclear innovation community to work together in a new way. As focus points, the gathered leaders will explore the potential in the Indigenous-Led Owner Consortium model for financing new nuclear and consider the feasibility and value of establishing an Indigenous-Led Nuclear Innovation & Development Zone in New Brunswick.

Guided by curated content from the stage, participants will move through a process of intentional free-flow conversations, small-group dialogues, and focused work sessions, building together: person-to-person relationships first; then, an aligned vision of success with respect to ownership models, financing, incentives, regulations, community engagement, commitments and project timelines for new nuclear in New Brunswick.

Then, working together, we will build out a shared vision.
